The proposed tutorial aims to provide researcher, students and industrialists with essential theory and practical skill sets to start a project or a career in the field of Machine-to Machine, IoT, and wireless sensor networks. The attendees will be provided the theory on: hardware, software and networking aspects and challenges of wireless sensor networks. The lecture includes a variety of real applications and projects which will be linked to the practical part of the tutorial.

In theoretical session, this tutorial provides necessary background from hardware level to the application level for researchers. After that at the practical session in this hands-on workshop, the lab notes, software emulator as well as hardware required to compile and run sample codes on real sensors will be provided to the tutorial participants. The objectives of the practical session are to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of intelligent sensor systems to participants.

The main aims of this workshop are:

  • What is Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)?
  • Wireless Sensor Network Applications
  • Learn how to program a real sensor
  • Learn how collect information from environment by sensors

The workshop has been run a number of times and has received a good interest from academia and industry as well as IEEE education activities. This workshop can be helpful for computer (software, hardware and artificial intelligence) and electronic students and also other enthusiast of intelligent sensor systems who are interested to work in the field of wireless sensor networks, IoT and smart cities.
