Abstract:

Behind virtually any popular technology these days is a computer program, but just being able to write a program is not a complete recipe for success. This talk will cover several examples of how university-based software projects can have an impact, and some lessons learned along the way, told from the Australian context.

Biography:

Dr. Martin Masek is a Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. Martin obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in 1997 and Ph.D. in medical image processing in 2004, both from The University of Western Australia. His research interests are in the application of computer technology to solve real-world problems. This has included projects including the transformation of inexpensive devices to create solutions for monitoring health and wellbeing and the use of games technology in applications from education to exercise.
