“The last 60 years of computing, humans were adapting to the computer. The next 60 years, the computer will adapt to us. It will be our voices that will lead the way; it will be a revolution and it will change everything.”

I’m fascinated by the power and beauty of sound and speech. I use digital signal processing and machine learning to explore and enhance the ways we communicate with each other and with machines. I work on various topics such as:

• How to recognize what people say and search for specific words or phrases in speech data

• How to create voice commands and speech assistants that can understand and respond to human requests

• How to identify who is speaking and what language they are speaking

• How to detect voice pathology and heart problems from sound signals

• How to reduce noise and improve speech quality in noisy environments

• How to model dynamical systems and chaos, and estimate their parameters

• How to design robots that can process speech and generate speech
