Bioinformatics (Computational Biology) is an interdisciplinary research field at the intersection of biology, mathematics, statistics and computer science. It seeks to create, advance and apply computational solutions to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of very large biological data sets.

In “Bioinformatics Workshop Series”, developed by Eslahchi-Lab in conjunction with Shahid Beheshti University, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) and Iranian Bioinformatics Society (IBIS), we intend to give a better understanding of this rapidly growing field and its current active research topics. All student and researchers who seek to do research in this field are encouraged to participate in these workshops.

The first one day workshop of this series aims to provide a basic introduction to Bioinformatics. To this end, first preliminary and necessary biological concepts will be introduced for those with no background in Biology. Next we will briefly introduce fundamental and key concepts in computer science, mathematics and statistics. Moreover, we will explore important challenges and hot topics in Bioinformatics. Finally we will present a case study and we will show how to solve it by employing up-to-date tools and databases.

بیوانفورماتیک یا همان زیست محاسباتی یک زمینه ی تحقیقاتی بین رشته ای مرتبط با رشته های زیست شناسی، ریاضیات، آمار و علوم کامپیوتر میباشد که هدف آن ایجاد، پیشبرد و اعمال کردن روش های محاسباتی برای حل مسائلی است که از مدیریت و یا آنالیز داده های حجیم زیستی نشات میگیرند.

در سلسله کارگاههای بیوانفورماتیک – که توسط آزمایشگاه دکتر اصلاحچی و با همکاری و مشارکت دانشگاه شهید بهشتی، پژوهشگاه دانش های بنیادین و انجمن بیوانفورماتیک ایران برگزار میشود – قصد داریم که درک بهتری از این زمینه ی تحقیقاتی رو به رشد و مسائل داغ و به روز آن ارائه نماییم. شرکت در این کارگاه ها به کلیه دانشجویان و محققینی که قصد تحقیق در این زمینه را دارند توصیه میشود.

هدف اولین کارگاه یک روزه از سلسه کارگاههای بیوانفورماتیک به طور کلی معرفی و آشنایی با بیوانفورماتیک است. بدین منظور قصد داریم ابتدا پیشنیاز ها و مفاهیم ضروری زیست شناسی را برای شرکت کنندگانی که پیش زمینه زیست شناسی ندارند معرفی کنیم. سپس به صورت کلی و خلاصه به مفاهیم بنیادین و کلیدی علوم کامپیوتر، ریاضیات و آمار خواهیم پرداخت. در ادامه چالش های مهم و مسائل داغ روز مرور خواهد شد. در نهایت یک مسئله زیست شناسی معرفی شده و به صورت عملی با استفاده از به روزترین ابزارها و پایگاه های داده حل خواهد شد.
